Greek hotel sue british couple over 'fake' holiday sickness claim

CRETE’S Caldera Palace Hotel has made a counter claim against a couple from Darlington to a holiday sickness claim they made after staying at the property.

The British couple have been accused of making a “fake” claim about becoming ill while staying at the five-star hotel.
Sean and Caroline Bondarenko filed a £10,000 compensation lawsuit against Caldera Palace Hotel three years after they stayed there.
The County Durham residents booked a holiday with Thomson to stay at the resort for a week in October 2013.
In 2016 they lodged a claim stating that they became ill after eating and drinking at the hotel.
But resort owner Atlantica Hotel Management has made a counter claim, arguing that the couple made no mention of their sickness during their stay.
The company is seeking £170,000 for damage to its reputation.
In court documents the hotel referenced a series ofFacebook posts which they claim shows the guests enjoying their stay at the time.
The accommodation provider argued the Bondarenkos “consumed large quantities of alcohol” while they were supposed to have been ill.

The costly counter-claim has prompted the couple to try to drop their claim altogether.
Sean, 47, said he and Caroline, 42, say that they asked their solicitor to drop the claim in February because they felt uneasy about it, but were told that they would have to pay legal costs.
