PRINCE Harry is planning to turn his late mother’s tiara into an engagement ring
for his girlfriend Meghan Markle, according to a Buckingham Palace source.
The love-struck prince, 32, is believed to be head-over-heels in love with the TV star and is planning the ultimate romantic gesture.
He wants to transform Princess Diana’s famous tiara into an engagement ring, after taking it from Kensington Palace as a memento after her shocking death in 1997.
A source close to the Royal Family hinted he is very close to asking Meghan Markle, 35, the big question - with Princess Diana’s birthday on July 1 expected to be the big day.
A source told The Daily Star: “Diana’s jewellery collection was left in trust for the boys and Meghan apparently loves emeralds.
“For Harry, like Wills before him, using his mother’s gems means the two loves of his life will forever be linked.”
The source also revealed the heart-breaking importance of the tiara to Prince Harry, who was just 12 years old when his mother died in Paris.
They said: “After Diana died, the boys both chose a keepsake from Kensington Palace when they moved to Charles’ rooms in St James’s Palace.
“Prince Williampicked his mum’s Cartier watch, and Harry picked her sapphire and diamond engagement ring.
“But they had an agreement that whoever got engaged first would have Diana’s ring – and of course that was William and Kate.
“Harry wants the same sentiment when he proposes to Meghan, so he is working with the jewellers to design something incredible.”. Earlier this month the pair attended a wedding together - sparking rumours they could soon walk down the aisles themselves.
A friend of Prince Harry said: “This the first time that she and Harry have socialised so openly as a couple. This is a significant step up in their relationship.
“Make no mistake, he is heads over heels about her. This one could go all the way.”
