Nicaraguan President Daniel Ortega has named his wife, Rosario Murillo as his running mate and Vice Presidential candidate as he seeks re-election for a third term.

Rosario currently serves as the chief spokesperson for her husband's government and is widely seen as sharing power with her him.

A mother of seven children, Rosario has a reputation for wearing colourfully extravagant outfits and jewellery more commonly seen in the hippy 1960s. Ortega and his wife officially submitted their presidential election nomination form to their party yesterday. He came into power in 2007.
