One dad's nightmare became very real after he woke up in the middle of the night to find his home crawling with snakes .
The terrified family were forced to flee their home after more than 150 reptiles managed to crawl inside and woke them with their hissing.
Retired forestry official Jitenda Mishra had been fast asleep when he was disturbed by a strange sound.
Turning on the light he saw to his horror two snakes coiled in the corner of the room.
But as he went to try and shoo them out, he discovered well over 100 more slithering across the floors of the family home in the district of Lakhimpur in north-eastern India’s Uttar Pradesh State.
Waking the rest of his family, they fled to their neighbours’ house where they raised the alarm.
Together, they worked through the night with the help of locals and hired men to clear the house of all the serpents and release them back into the forest.
The snakes had made their way into the house through a wall after slithering into the basement.
Mr Mishra later told local media: "Initially, two to three snakes came out.
"But we then found the rest and with the help of our neighbours managed to get rid of them."
Forestry spokesman Sanjay Biswal said: "There could be a number of reasons behind this incident, but one of the reasons is mating.
Snakes tend to find a safe place in order to mate.
"We are looking into the matter further."
